Over 60% of the UK population now identifies as non-religious. Only 10% say that religion is really important to them. That’s great but it’s the other 30% I’m interested in. The ones who probably haven’t given it a lot of thought but, when asked, say “I suppose I’m Christian/CofE” or “I’m Muslim if anyone asks!”.
Next time they are faced with a census question or survey I want them to respond as though they had just been asked if they believe in fairies, Father Christmas or reading tea leaves – and those are indeed all fair analogies!
Because the more people who do not believe then the greater leverage we have to get things changed such as stopping the indoctrination of children in our schools or protecting our society against the increasing religious threats to women’s rights.
Whether or not I succeed, I hope there is plenty in here to make you laugh and to give you, at least some, food for thought.
Lots of Love and Hope for the Future
